Full Biography

Ulises began his solo artist career in 2004, accompanied by his guitar and tracks that he produced himself in his own home, while holding a steady job as a drums and guitar instructor. After graduating in sociology, first in his class, the University of Zulia acquired Ulises as a teacher. He recently earned an MA in philosophy. However, he’s found his true passion in making music, leading him to always be experimenting, creating new sounds and trying new instruments. Ulises dominates various instruments, which have incorporated unconventional sounds in his songs, like the Theremin, and the Greek instruments Tumbeleki and Bouzouki. His personal reflections are very marked in his lyrics and melodies, which he not only achieves by being a great musician and songwriter but also by having studied psychoanalysis during his undergraduate and master careers, since Ulises believes that “the subconscious plays a very important role in all artists’ creation process”. His debut album, Presente, and current album, Cosas Perdidas, have been praised by influential media worldwide, including Rolling Stone who gave his first album 4 stars. The singer-songwriter, who is considered by critics to be the best kept secret of new Venezuelan pop music, recently made his US debut in July 2012 with shows in New York, Philadelphia, and Miami and has toured internationally, including shows in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Spain. In September it was announced that Ulises was nominated for three 2012 Latin GRAMMYS® in the Best New Artist, Best Alternative Album and Best Rock Song categories. Although Ulises was awarded a Latin GRAMMY® as engineer in 2007 for his work with Voz Veis, this is his first nomination as an artist.
