We expected la primera novela MTV to take us for an unforgettable ride, and boy did Niñas Mal deliver! True to their title, the bad girls were on their worst behavior throughout, never ceasing to surprise us with just how dirty their deeds could be. From Nina’s selfish tantrums, to Greta’s sour arrogance, and Adela’s defiant attitude, putting these personalities under one roof was bound to be explosive!
They were court ordered to serve a social rehab sentence at Casa Maca, but Maca never quite had enough control of these girls to straighten them out. Se acuerdan de la peléa entre Nina y Adela on the first day they met when Adela called the pop star “Lady Caca”? Not long after, Greta also found una razón de jalarse los pelos con Adela when she thought Kike was giving her too much attention. As much as Nina and Greta disliked each other, for some reason they liked Adela even less, asi que se unieron para sacarla de Casa Maca and got her sent to a labor farm. Talk about mean girls in action!
Adela was undeniably the black sheep of the house, always trying to plot a way to escape with her three besties, Axl, Fatu, y Piti. Los trés mosqueteros tried to help in their own awkwardly funny way, but it was “Mocasines” who always had Adela’s back from the beginning. Ignacio couldn’t hide his love for her if he tried… not that he did. But every time he confessed his love for Adela, ella lo rechazaba al instante. Except, of course, on that one afternoon in the back seat of his car when she just couldn’t hold back her passion… It literally took the entire novela to get her to wise up about Nachito, but better late than never!
Nina struggled with the question of figuring out who really loves her, and it nearly sent her on a suicidal spin of no return. She couldn’t trust her mother, the ultimate stage mom manager, and with such an isolated celebrity life, Nina didn’t have any friends either. La única persona en quien confiar was her brother Rafa, who in the end was only doing his mother’s bidding anyway. Poor lonely Nina! Willing to do anything to stay in the spotlight, Nina falsely accused Adela’s long lost brother of rape (gasp!), and almost had him locked up. Clearly her sad story didn’t take much away from her deviousness…
When we met Greta, her whole world spun around Enrique Linares, the rich, spoiled villain of the story. His only goal in life was to manipulate and hook up with as many girls as possible. All Greta wanted was to find a way to make Kike want her the way he wanted other girls. Asi fué como nació Lola, Greta’s late night alter ego, who would go out dancing and try to seduce Kike. This wasn’t hard to do, but in the process Greta risked losing the only person in her life who wanted her exactly as is: Emiliano. El amor entre Greta y Emi definitely changed Greta’s outlook on the bubble her life had been before him. And the scenes between these two were nothing short of steamy!
Las otras chicas de Casa Maca had their own struggles to overcome, and were pretty successful in finding their way. Valentina, confused about her sexuality and the boundaries between lust and friendship, figured out that she doesn’t need labels to be who she is. Pía, la chica trastornada de Casa Maca, took her time in finding the strength to survive on her own, pero terminó siendo mucho más fuerte de lo que se imaginaba. Marisa, once obsessed with the idea of Nina the pop princess, aprendió a quererse a si misma and to accept herself for who she is without needing Nina’s approval.
Overall, being in rehab with the support of Maca and Teo really did help these girls grow into better people… but without losing that niña mal edge that makes them so endearing. What did you think of the Niñas Mal saga? Is there anything you would have wanted to happen differently?
